Why should

We can use this site experimentally to experiment with services to our congregation and internal activities to determine what does and does not work.

We know that the Sheep-In-Need list is successful, and we know that we can add features here that can be tried, added if successful, or discarded it they are not useful.

The host of this site invites you to meditate on what you consider the important need of GSPC that may be served by the internet. We will consider all suggestions are are willing to try ideas if they are technically feasable.

So What is This About?

There are a number papers discussing the inadequacy of Church based web sites as a service to its memberships. Often, this is a result of ad-hock attempts to supply only brochure (information type) sites. The most useful information on the brochure site is usually static in nature  It should give the objectives, addresses, telephone numbers, contact information, and description of the elements of the organization. All static information about the church is useful for new members and those interested in finding a church home.  It has been shown that the most effective sites in attracting new attention are the more interactive sites, ones that have what are called "web logs" often called "blogs". With a blog, there are a number of authors who write articles to which readers may comment. The authors have the final say as to what is published on the comments. A good example of a blog is GuatAdopt.Com a site about Guatamalan Adoptions.  Unless you pay a premium to the search engines the search engine determines where you are placed by a number of criteria including how often the site changes. Therefore blogs and news sites are usually placed higher in their reports when a search is done.

Another effective interactive system is the forum. In this arrangement there are a number of subjects listed in a hierarchical organization. The forum, where moderated, is open ended by design and usually any member (of the forum) can open a discussion on about any subject. The forum has rules about what can be published and usually includes means to ban people who disobey the rules. Please do not consider this as an invitation other than to visit an example of a well run forum but if you would like to see one check out Hannity.

A third mechanism for interchange of information is called a "wiki". A wiki is particularly useful for developing plans for various programs either church wide, the session, or divisions like sunday school or the music organizations, or even to plan for small groups if desired. In a wiki, contributors may contribute ideas, ask questions, and participate in writing the plan. A good example of a wiki is WikipediA, a free encyclopedia.

What about www.goodshepherdpc.org?

"www.goodshepherdpc.org" is the brochure site for Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church and currently the only authorized site. This site, www.gspc-gwinnett.org, experimental in nature, is not intended to replace or compete with the brochure site.  Each has its own purpose.  This site is intended to be more dynamic and, as such, easier to access.  News items and announcements are appropriate for this site ... like ... weather cancellations and the like. Weekly bulletins  and Sunday Morning "programs" are appropriate for www.gspc-gwinnett.org.  Planning activities and discussion of all church related subjects are also appropriate.

Participation

There are both open areas in which you may add comments, participate in forums, and in the open wikis. Please understand that there are also secure parts of the site that require a name and password for you to gain access. These parts usually contain information that should not be generally distributed. If you feel your should have access, there is a moderator to whom you may apply for access.

Benefits

Why participate? For recognition, inspiration, and a resource from which we can all benefit. We all benefit from each others' ideas and questions. If you are new to the GSPC-Gwinnett, your questions often remind us of our own Christian pursuits. No questions should go unanswered. No idea ignored
